Voting ended at 9 p.m. and the electoral bureaus started to compile voting reports. According to the CEC, over 1.147 million electors voted in the general local elections. This is 41.4% of the voting-eligible population, IPN reports.
The female voters who cast their ballots represented 55.36%, while the male voters – 44.64%. Some 22.53% of those who voted are aged between 55 and 65, 17.38% - between 36 and 45, 19.02% – between 66 and 75, 12.28% - between 26 and 35. The percentage of the people aged between 18 and 25 who voted rose slightly to 6.09%, as against the turnout of 5.51% among voters aged 76 and older.
In the municipality of Chisinau, the turnout was of almost 267,000 persons, which is nearly 41% of the voting-age citizens. In Balti, the turnout of voters was of about 39% (over 39,000 people).
If none of the candidates gains more than half of the valid votes cast, a runoff vote involving the two candidates with the highest number of votes in the first round voting will be held in two weeks.
