Poll: Igor Dodon and Maia Sandu have biggest chances in presidential elections

The chairman of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon and the leader of the Party “Action and Solidarity” Maia Sandu have the biggest chances of reaching the second round of the October 30 presidential elections, shows the poll “Moldova’s President in the people’s view: sociological approach” that was carried out and presented by the Association of Sociologists and Demographers, IPN reports.

The respondents were asked who they would vote for in the presidential elections out of a list of politicians who announced their intention to run for President. Over 36% of the respondents who are decided to take part in the elections said they would vote for Igor Dodon, while over 16% would support Maia Sandu.

Almost 14% of the decided respondents would vote for the head of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” Andrei Nastase, while more than 12% would support the chairman of the Democratic Party Marian Lupu.

About 8% of those polled would vote for the chairman of the European People’s Party of Moldova Iurie Leanca, 3.6% for the candidate fielded by the “Our Party” Dumitru Chubashenko, while 1.3% for the leader of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu. The rest of the aspirants would get less than 1%.

According to the poll, if presidential elections were held next Sunday, 53% of those surveyed would go to vote. Over 21% are sure they would not cast their ballots, while the rest are still undecided.

The poll was conducted between September 1 and 10 and covered a sample of 1,179 persons from 77 communities. The margin of sampling error is 3%.
