Poll among protesters: Half of these trust Maia Sandu the most

Almost half of the people who protested in the Great National Assembly Square on September 13 said they have the greatest confidence in former minister of education Maia Sandu. The Association of Sociologists and Demographers of Moldova published the general results of the sociological study “Vox populi September 2015 “Sociopolitical situation in Moldova and possible assessment trends” that was carried out in the Square on September 13, IPN reports.

In the popular approval rating, Maia Sandu is followed by one of the leaders of the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth” Andrei Nastase, who is trusted by about 8% of the respondents. TV presenter and writer Constantin Cheianu is trusted by about 6% of those polled, while 40% of the respondents said they trust no one or do not want to answer.

If parliamentary elections were held next Sunday, over 26% of those would vote for the party that would be formed based on the Platform “Dignity and Truth”, more than 33% would vote against all the contenders, while 24% would possibly not take part in the elections. Over 6% of the respondents would vote for the European People’s Party of Moldova, over 4% - for the Liberal Party, while more than 2% - for the People’s Force Party. The other parties indicated would poll not even 1%.

Over 60% of those polled said they would like the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth” to become a political organization (political party or movement), which would afterward enter Parliament. 62% said that they do not consider that a scenario similar to that of April 7, 2009 is possible in case of an escalation, while almost 65% said the Platform’s demands are fully justified.

Asked if the relations between Moldova and the European Union improved, worsened or remained the same after the November 30, 2014 elections, over 70% of the respondents said they worsened. More than 80% said the current sociopolitical situation in the country is tense.

The poll covered a sample of 213 respondents who protested in the Great National Assembly Square. The data were collected by operators from the network of the Association of Sociologists and Demographers of Moldova on September 13. The goal of the survey was to analyze in detail the protests stages recently in Chisinau and the demands put forward by civil society to the authorities.
