At what stage of its historical development does Moldova find itself on the eve of its 24th anniversary from economic, political and social points of view? Is the development process normal, fast, slow? What are the lessons we have learned and those we are yet to learn? What are the short-term and long-term prospects of Moldovan society? These are the questions IPN is trying to answer through a series of articles titled “Moldova at 24 years of age: Who are we? Where are we going?”, by speaking to experts from different fields

Olga Nicolenco, political pundit, says that there is no development as progress, evolution or improvement in Moldova. The last quarter of century meant only stagnation, involution and regress and this is why, she thinks, the upcoming anniversary of independence won't be celebrated with joy or pride by the ordinary citizens, for whom this is an anniversary of national hopelessness.

“Without any hesitation, I condemn and deem the local political class accountable for this despair rooted in the Moldovans' spirit. The disappointment has been more painful over the past 6 years, when the people repeatedly gave the falsely self-proclaimed pro-European and pro-Democrat politicians a vote of confidence – at parliamentary elections in 2009, 2010 and 2014 and at local elections in 2011 and 2015”, explained Nicolenco.

She feels the people's vote has been abused and defiled by politicians. “These politicians will appear on TV in a few days with their happy faces, satisfied by the endless thefts, to “enrapture” us with new lies and promises about our blissful future that is so near, 'round the corner. I truly hope that our people have learned their lesson and will boycott this mad verbal looseness”, said the pundit.

According to Nicolenco, this end of August, the citizens will have neither the occasion, nor the desire to celebrate together with the politicians “who stole our place in history, our European hopes and independence alongside the billion euros from banks”.
