The politicians said the behavior of certain representatives of the Church should be followed and even punished if they commit abuses or manipulate the public opinion, IPN reports.
The head of the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group Valeriu Strelet said the politicians are not against the Church, but some of the Church representatives who discredit the principles of the Christian religion should be monitored by the politicians and society. “I said that they inflate a problem that does not pose a threat to society,” he stated.
Deputy Speaker Adrian Candu said that for Parliament it is important to protect the basic human rights. “The Church representatives should not forget that the Church is an institution that should think about the development of society. We do not want a war, but will be watchful and will follow the behavior of some of the Church representatives. If they abuse the trust and manipulate, we will make everything possible to hold them accountable,” he stated.
He also said that the Moldovan political class was tolerant of certain expressions of the Church representatives. “In many states they started to lay emphasis on the property of the Church, its undeclared incomes and the method of collecting and using money. We may also raise the issue of taxing the Church’s revenues so that those who say that they play an important role in the development of society really contribute, not only by speculations and manipulation of the public opinion,” said the politician.
In a news conference at IPN, an initiative group of Orthodox priests disapproved of the fact that the Moldovan political leaders disregarded the Church Synod’s statement that informed about the intention to initiate the procedure for excommunicating the promoters of homosexuality. Priest Ghenadie Valuta said the Moldovan rulers went through all the stages of disobedience stipulated in the Holy Scripture and can be named pagans because they didn’t listen to the call of the faithful not to adopt the Antidiscrimination Law. The functionaries must understand that they should not come into conflict with the Church as it aims to protect society, while those who oppose the word of the Church will not end well their earthly life.
