Lawmakers, party members and ministers went to Mihai Eminescu’s bust on Classical Writers Alley on January 15 to render homage to the poet. Today it is 163 years of the bard’s birth, Info-Prim Neo reports. The poet’s bust was covered with flowers brought by Speaker Marian Lupu, President Nicolae Timofti and his wife Margareta, members of the presidential apparatus, Prime Minister Vlad Filat, members of the Government, Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca, and lawmakers. The chairman of the Writers Union Arcadie Suceveanu said that January 15 is a day when the Romanians from everywhere honor the one who said: “We are Romanians and punctum”. “It is a holiday of Eminescu and the Romanian verb. For the first time this year, we celebrate on this day the National Culture Day,” stated Arcadie Suceveanu. A number of colleagues of his went to Bucharest and to Botosani, where the poet was born, and to Soroca to celebrate Mihai Eminescu. Vlad Filat said that Eminescu was, is and will be the greatest poet of the Romanian nation. “On this day and this year, we mark three important events with cultural significance. Besides the birthday of the great poet, we also celebrate the National Culture Day. Also today we launch the Year of Spiridon Vangheli. We must promote the teachings of our forerunners so that they are present in the daily activities,” he said. Dorin Chirtoaca said the poet’s day is shadowed by the tragic events that happened in Moldova at the end of last year and the start of this year. He stressed that poet Mihai Eminescu would have harshly criticized the Moldovan political class by his works. “If we have to celebrate Eminescu in an unhappy context, we should draw conclusions, go through and advance so that things improve,” he stated. Romanian Ambassador in Chisinau Marius Lazurca and Romanian historian Petre Guran also came to the poet’s bust and wished many years to all those who speak the language of Mihai Eminescu.
