The politicians consider that Moldova achieved important results concerning media freedom at a time when the media NGOs state the opposite, IPN reports.

In the program “Politica” on TV 7 channel, director of the Association of Independent Press Petru Macovei said the mass media in Moldova are far from being free when there is intensive monopolization, especially in the broadcasting sector.

“It’s known that most of the employers of media outlets are politicians, who give instructions to editors, while the latter tell the journalists what and how they should write,” stated Macovei.

On the other hand, Dumitru Diacov, president of honor of the Democratic Party, considers that the mass media in Moldova is free, but there are yet problems in this respect. “Nobody is prevented from stating their opinions, but certain changes should be made to the legislation to allow the media organizations to become businesses,” he said.

Liberal-Democratic MP Chiril Lucinschi, who owns a TV channel, also considers that the Moldovan media are free, but he cannot say that they are also transparent. “The owners of media outlets should come together and agree clear rulers that would ensure transparency and freedom in the broadcasting sector,” he stated.
