President of the Republican People’s Party (PPR) Nicolae Andronic insists that the criminal proceedings initiated against him by the General Prosecutor’s Office (GPO) are made up and politically motivated. Andronic told a news conference on Tuesday that since January 4 he has experienced a “judicial ordeal”, where the rules are set by persons loyal to Power and disinterested in the legality of their actions, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to Andronic, the investigations included many and serious violations of legal procedures and human rights and freedoms. Andronic says he and his lawyer Gheorghe Malic have attempted for over two months to prove his innocence and reveal serious violations of the legislation committed by representatives of law enforcement bodies, but, in compliance with the new provisions of the Code of Penal Procedures (CPP), the complaints regarding the prosecutor’s actions reach either the same prosecutor or his/her higher-ups. “By amending the CPP it was violated the Constitution that guarantees the right to dispute in court violations of rights and that says that no law can limit the citizen’s access to a fair justice. Today, the defence party depends on the government’s attorney, which also compromises the right of defence, stipulated by Article 26 of the Constitution”, Andronic says. At the same time, PPR leader asserts that the prosecutor closed the criminal investigation, without responding to the defendant’s inquiry to terminate the prosecution, as the constituent element of offence lacks, seriously violating the legal procedure. Andronic says that if he, as public person, jurist, former employee of the Prosecutor’s Office and former member of the Parliament’s Legal Committee is charged with serious violations of law, then what is the fate of a simple citizen, who reached this “judicial machinery”, forced to face the illegalities committed by the Moldovan justice at the indication of the communist government and President Vladimir Voronin. At the same time, he is sure that those who order such executions will reach the dock without fail. As Andronic states, the defence attorney challenged the prosecutor general Valeriu Gurbulea who conducted the criminal investigation. Despite the legal provisions, the inquiry of challenging the prosecutor general was not sent for examination to the Supreme Court of Justice and was not examined, which entails the annulment of all the criminal procedure documents that might follow. The first court sitting on “Andronic case” is scheduled for March 12 at the Buiucani District Court.
