To transfer the plot on which the café “Guguta” is situated back under municipal ownership and to hamper the construction of a multistory building in its place, in the central park of Chisinau, political will is needed, but this is absent, Socialist councilor on the Chisinau Municipal Council Stas Vartanean was quoted by IPN as saying in the talk show “Key issue” on NTV Moldova channel.

The councilor said the main task now is to do everything possible to transfer the plot back under municipal ownership. The projects through which municipal property is transferred to private owners can be stopped by the mayor, the municipal council, the Government and nongovernmental organizations with the support of society. “There are possibilities of stopping the constructions. Some of these are legislative in character, while others are related to protests or political will”, he noted.

Civic activist Sergiu Ungureanu said such a large construction near the Parliament Building, the Government Building and the Presidential Building will look unaesthetically and will not match urban planning and any rule. This construction seems to be someone’s whim. On the other hand, it will bring many revenues as this will be a hotel and a tunnel to other buildings can be easier built there.

The company “Regata Imobiliare”, which is the successor in procedural rights of “Finpar Invest” SRL that is controlled by the family of Vladimir Plahotniuc, can come into possession of the plot on which the café “Guguta” is situated. The decision was taken by the Chisinau Appeals Court this June. By the same decision, the company is allowed to erect a 13-story building instead of the café. Representatives of civil society have mounted protests near the café for a period.
