The political system in Moldova has discredited itself and there is a serious danger of usurpation of the state power as the ruling party or alliance that forms a majority in Parliament ignores the Opposition and holds control over all the state institutions. The statement was made by the head of the Foundation for the Promotion of Reforms in the Legal System, Security and Defense “PRISA” Valeriu Plesca in a roundtable meeting on Thursday, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“When choosing a party, the people now vote for the lists and often do not know the MPs representing them, while the MPs are dependent on the ideology and obligations of the party. We must make the Parliament functional by instituting a mixed electoral system so as to make the MPs independent,” said Valeriu Plesca, who is running as an independent in the November 28 elections.
Viorel Cibotaru, the head of the European Institute for Political Studies of Moldova, said the political system in Moldova should be reviewed. Among the causes that led to this blockage, the expert mentioned the irregularities committed by parties, political corruption, parties' non-transparent financial reports.
Politologist Victor Juc said the political parties are an important element in a political system as they ensure the connection between the people and the state institutions. According to the expert, there is a dangerous trend when they say that the parties are to blame for everything, while the independent candidates are the saviors of the nation.
The roundtable meeting “Elections and Democracy: Political Potential of the Electoral Systems“ was organized by the European Integration and Political Sciences Institute of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, the Foundation for the Promotion of Reforms in the Legal System, Security and Defense, and the European Institute for Political Studies of Moldova.
