A political show named referendum is going to take place in the eastern region of Moldova, the political analyst from Chisinau, Oazu Nantoi states.
He told Info-Prim Neo that does not consider that a true referendum will take place in the eastern region of the Republic of Moldova. A referendum is an instrument of a true democracy, when free and well informed citizens can express their options regarding national matters. Tomorrow’s action is set up by Moscow’s puppets at the direct order of Kremlin. Legal consequences are excluded – the analyst says.
According to Nantoi, the problem is that the Russian Federation wants to show that the pseudo-results of this action can be used to make pressures over Moldova aimed at convincing it to accept under other titles the stipulations of the Kozak Memorandum, otherwise it will continue quietly absorb the eastern part of Moldova. Nantoi mentioned in this respect that such ideas as introducing the Russian ruble were already announced and it is said that the educational system of Transnistria will be adjusted to the Russian standards. This is an annexation, if taking into consideration that during 15 years the leaderships of Moldova were not capable of elaborating a national strategy on reestablishing the territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova, political analyst Oazu Nantoi added.
On March 31, 2006, the 4th congress of the Transnistrian MPs decided to organize a referendum in Transnistria. The issues which are to be decided tackle the relations of Transnistria with Russia and another – its relations with Moldova.
During a visit in Moldova, the head of the team of the General Assembly of OSCE for Moldova, Kimmo Kiljunen declared that the intention of Tiraspol will not be internationally recognized as well as the referendum in Montenegro. The official declared that the referendum must be a result of the negotiations not a precondition for them. Afterwards, other European officials and international organizations declared that they will not recognize the referendum on independence. Also, the ministers of foreign affairs of Romania and Ukraine made official statements in this respect. At a press conference organized on July 11, President Vladimir Voronin declared that by organizing this referendum, Tiraspol wants to divert attention from the region’s serious problems. At the end of the same month the Parliament made a statement through which it condemns this action. On the other hand, Russian officials said that Moscow might recognize the results of the referendum. Recently Russia, which holds the presidency in the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, has blocked the adoption of a Declaration of this body referring the Sunday’s referendum. However, later the EU member countries from the Council of Europe decided to spread a declaration on the behalf of the European Union. Russia publicized a declaration through which, the plebiscite from the left side of Nistru “will have no legal validity” for the European community.
