If the government refuses and ignores the demands of the European Action Movement (EAM) the situation is likely to degrade to the point when a general strike of teachers will be inevitable, EAM leader Anatol Petrencu told Info-Prim Neo. In his words, the teachers endorse EAM’s efforts to sensitise the government to the needs of the teachers and to the demands of the Movement. The relevant labour union organisations also support the demands. The thing is, the Ministry of Education and Youth also agrees with the protesters, but does nothing to satisfy them, Petrencu said. Throughout this week, including today, EAM has picketed the building of the Ministry of Education in protest against the low wages of the teachers and their inadequate working conditions. The Movement submitted a series of demands to the Ministry, requesting higher salaries, pensions, and stipends; a share of 8 to 10 percent of the GDP for education; urgent signing of an agreement with the Romanian Ministry of Education, etc. The Movement requested an answer as to the progress in fulfilling the demands by November 1.
