The Central Election Commission this year has 42.31 million lei for financing political parties, by 8 million lei more than last year. The sum is to be distributed to political parties according to the results these achieved in the snap parliamentary elections of July 11, 2021 and the local general elections of 2019, IPN reports.
The political parties are entitled to annual subsidies received from the state budget through the agency of CEC. The subsidies are distributed according to the criteria stipulated in the Law on Political Parties. The parties will get by 30% proportionally to the results achieved in the parliamentary and local general elections, by 15% proportionally to the results obtained in the presidential elections, by 7.5% proportionally to the number of women elected effectively in the parliamentary and local general elections and by 5% proportionally to the number of young people elected effectively in the parliamentary and local general elections, CEC president Angela Caraman stated in a press briefing. In the case of electoral blocs, the allocation will be divided according to preliminary agreements between the bloc members, while in the absence of agreements, in accordance with the number of votes won by each component.
The CEC annually approves the size of monthly subsidies depending on the sum allocated from the state budget. This year, the size for each valid ballot cast in the elections of October 2019 is 0.36 lei, in the presidential elections of 2020 – 0.57 lei, while in the snap elections of July 11, 2021 – 0.71 lei for each valid ballot cast. Compared with last year, the monthly subsidy per ballot is twice higher.
The size of monthly subsidy for each woman elected in the snap parliamentary elections is 6,567 lei, in the local elections of 2019 is 63 lei, while for each young people is 10,945 lei and, respectively, 103.68 lei.
Angelica Caraman also said that CEC aims to improve the normative framework that regulates financial reporting and the supplementing of financial reports with additional data so that the public finds more information about donors or dues paid by party members.
