The Women's Politic Club 50/50 calls on the political organizations and politicians to ensure the women's participation in decision making. A project to encourage parity in politics was launched during a new conference held at Info-Prim Neo on February 4. The winners will get a Gender Equality Prize. The organization's head Valentina Stratan said the idea of such a contest derived from a similar contest organized by the Council of Europe. It is designed to make the political parties and political and public personalities more interested in promoting gender equality. The Club will carry out different activities aimed at helping the contenders achieve their goals. The Gender Equality Prize will be awarded every year, starting with this year, for accomplishments and successes in promoting women to executive positions and in encouraging gender equality. For her part, the executive director of the Women's Politic Club 50/50 Ecaterina Mardarovich said in an authentic democracy the women must take part in governance and decision making. The Council of Europe recommended Moldova to ensure the representation of women at a level of 30-40%. Unfortunately, the qualities and abilities of the women in Moldova are not appreciated, Ecaterina Mardarovich said, adding that if there were no such recommendations, the Moldovan women could remain outside decision making. “It can happen that there will no one to whom we can give the prize at the end of the year,” she said. The Gender Equality Prize rewards political parties that strive to promote gender equality in politics. It represents a symbol of the partnership – He and She twisted together. The statue was made by graphic designer Iurie Ambros. Any NGO, public institution or private individual can nominate political parties or public figures for taking part in the contest. Any political party can field itself or a representative for the contest. The winners will be selected by an independent and impartial jury.
