The European Action Movement (MAE) demands that President Vladimir Voronin should resign immediately because he did nothing to solve the serious problems confronting the Moldovan people, who, according to the Movement, found themselves involved, in a way or another, in Russia’s aggression war against Moldova’s independence and territorial integrity. MAE president Anatol Petrencu told a news conference on July 24 that “Moldova’s national interest dictates that Vladimir Voronin, this bellicose personage, general of Soviet militia and citizen of the Russian Federation, should leave the political arena. Moreover, he himself said during a televised program that he is ready to resign even tomorrow.” The Movement strongly condemns the scandalous attitude towards the non-communist local public authorities that came to power after the June 3 local elections expressed by the head of state during a program on the television channel NIT. Also, it condemns Voronin’s irresponsible statements targeting Romania, Romanian President Traian Basescu and the European Union. The MAE considers the head of state as usurper No.1 of the state power, person that liquidated the democratic freedoms, the independence of the juridical institutions and moreover – the person to blame for Moldova’s international isolation. The European Action Movement describes as aberrations the President’s assertion that there are no other plans for settling the Transnistria dispute, except “the one that he drafted in secret from the public opinion from Moldova and from abroad.” In the context, they remind the head of state about the existence of the “3 D” Plan (democratisation, demilitarisation and decriminalisation of the eastern districts of Moldova), which was approved by the Moldovan Parliament in the summer of 2005. The political organisation says it has a well-shaped plan for solving the Transnistria conflict, which is based on the Constitution of Moldova and on the European Convention on Human Rights.
