Representatives of the political movement Union submitted the documents to the Central Election Commission (CEC) for registering the electoral bloc Union, announcing thus the intention to run in the new parliamentary elections in single-member constituency No. 38, Hâncești.

The political movement Union was founded by the Liberal Party, the Romanian People’s Party, the Save Bessarabia Union, the Democracy at Home Party and the National Liberal Party.

Save Bessarabia Union leader Valeriu Munteanu said that after the electoral bloc is registered by the CEC, a candidate will be chosen to run in the Hâncești constituency.

For his part, the Liberal leader Dorin Chirtoacă said that he could run in the elections in Hâncești constituency.  “We will discuss the issue inside the party and with colleagues from the other parties of the movement and will announce the final decision,” he wrote on Facebook.

Contacted by IPN for a comment, head of the CEC’s Public Relations and the Mass Media Division Rodica Sîrbu said the set of documents will be examined and within seven days the Commission will take a decision as to the registration in a public meeting.

For now, this is the first attempt to constitute an electoral bloc for the new parliamentary elections that will take place on March 15.
