Political leader slams mass privatizations operated by Communist Govt.

Social-Democratic leader Dumitru Braghis states he has always doubted the effects of liberalizing the capital in Moldova. “More than a year and a half ago, when those moves were discussed in the Parliament, I said they would not yield the projected results simply because there was no due trust in the Government, and in Moldova in general as a place to invest,” Dumitru Braghis told a news conference on December 3. Governmental officials stated, on December 2, the incomes from the tax on legalizing the capital (5%) are assessed to be 9 million lei, after some one year and a half after entering force as part of the liberalization reform in economy. The 2008 state budget planned incomes of 294 million lei from this tax. Media organization backing the Governance would announce, when those legal amendment were debated, that they represented 'a liberal revolution' operated by a Communist Government, Info-Prim Neo reports. The politician voices against what he calls 'mass privatization'. When asked to comment on the Government's intention to privatize large companies till the year-end, he has said: “I think it is a mistake. We'll lose after these privatizations.” “The Social-Democratic Party (PSD) was the only party which said it clearly that the mass privatization in Moldova needed to be halted temporarily. Because of the economic crisis, we'll get a very small price for very large companies,” Braghis said. Returning from a conference of Social-Democratic leaders from Europe and the Community of Independent States, Dumitru Braghis has stated “liberalism has crunched”. He brought about as a proof the world economic crisis caused by the financial crisis having affected developed economies last fall. The Social-Democratic leader invites the Moldovan politicians to abandon the discussions about the future president of the country and to focus on developing a program to get out of the economic crisis. Dumitru Braghis thinks his party will get not less than 15% of the ballots in the future parliamentary elections. “Without the PSD's participation, neither the President will be elected, nor the government will be formed,” Braghis said. He does not rule out any partnership with any party in forming the future Cabinet, but the talks should start after the poll. Braghis insists to make a priority from developing plans to overcome the crisis and not to share seats.
