The leader of the political project “Action and Solidarity” Maia Sandu reiterated her position about the necessity of fielding a common candidate of the political forces of the right for the presidential elections. In the program “In Depth” on Pro TV Chisinau channel, Maia Sandu said the fragmentation on the right is dangerous for the country. According to her, an unsuitable candidate could reach the second round of voting, IPN reports.
Maia Sandu noted that so far they had only general discussions about a common candidate of the right for the presidential elections. “I discussed with Andrei Nastase, who represents the Platform “Dignity and Truth”. There are also other possible participants who are still pondering over. It will be rather hard technically to work out mechanisms for identifying the candidate with the greatest potential, who will be the least vulnerable. It’s now too early to speak about this. Things can change until autumn,” she stated.
In another development, the ex-minister of education said that the trust put by the people in her, according the results of the recent Public Opinion Barometer, is generated also by the big disappointment of the people in the current government. “This political class discredited itself and this means that we need a new class. A change of the political class is not made only by my coming to power. We do not speak about a person only. Until new leaders appear, we enjoy greater sympathy. I want to believe that this support is also due to the messages that we transmit to the people,” stated Maia Sandu.
According to the Public Opinion Barometer for April 2016, if presidential elections were held next Sunday, the leader of the political project “Action and Solidarity” Maia Sandu would go through to the second round of voting together with the chairman of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon. Maia Sandu would gain almost 21% of the vote, while Igor Dodon – nearly 30%.
