The European Parliament’s rapporteur for the Republic of a Moldova Dragoș Tudorache calls on the Moldovan authorities to clearly set their objectives and to ask for financial support for concrete projects form the European partners. The MEP said the political climate in Chisinau and in Brussels is favorable for implementing ambitious projects for the citizens’ benefit, IPN reports.

The Romanian MEP said the authorities in Chisinau enjoy increased trust on the part of the European institutions. To put this trust to good use, the government should come up with concrete projects and ask for financing from the European partners for them.

“There political climate in Chisinau and in Brussels favors a rich agenda and partnership between the two sides. We, in the European Parliament, said it very clearly after the elections that it is our duty to support the ambitions of the government in Chisinau as we can no longer leave things the way they are. We must advance at financial level too, in terms of the macro-financial assistance,” Dragoș Tudorache stated in the program “Emphasis on Today” on TVR Moldova channel.

The MEP admitted that citizens’ expectations of the new government are enormous and the delivery of immediate results is required. Tudorache said that with a comfortable parliamentary majority in the legislature, the government should fulfill the assumed commitments for obtaining the loans and grants announced by the EU.

“There is a political risk that the expectations of society will not be met on time. These expectations should be met with very concrete elements. We must come with assistance and projects that the people will feel swiftly. Either they are in village or town, either they study or learn, the people need to feel that Europe is near them. In the discussions with the European partners, the government should look for more flexible mechanisms for bringing money to communities,” stated the MEP.

During September 27-28, Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița is making an official visit to Brussels. Today, she will have meetings with European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi, European Commissioner for Transport Adina Vălean, and European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson.
