The political situation in the country, the instability and the non-functional government affect the spring agricultural works, said the head of the National Farmers Federation Valeriu Cosarciuc. “The political anarchy will cause more damage to agriculture than last year’s drought,” Cosarciuc said in a news conference, quoted by IPN.

The National Farmers Federation initiated consultations with the farmers. Valeriu Cosarciuc said the agricultural producers complain that they do not have money to cultivate the land. The banks refuse to release loans to them, especially to small farmers. When the producers seek help from the authorities, they are told that the government is not functional and they cannot obtain funds.

Valeriu Cosarciuc stated that the costs incurred by the farmers increase from year to year. Compared with last year, the diesel fuel, seeds and fertilizers grew dearer. “The farmers believe that they were abandoned as the promised aid does not come,” said the Federation’s head. He also said that the assistance provided to the agricultural producers until now was distributed non-uniformly.

As a result of the consultations with the farmers, there will be prepared a set of proposals for solving the main problems encountered in agriculture. The National Farmers Federation will submit proposals for improving the situation to the Government. Valeriu Cosarciuc said the executive must become functional as soon as possible so as to prevent the situation from worsening.
