Andrei Popov, a former executive manager of the NGO “The Association for Foreign Policy”, has persuaded the Democratic Party (PDM) to offer him the fourth position on the list for Parliament. “I promise you I shall be an honest politician,” Andrei Popov stated at a news conference, on July 3, Info-Prim Neo reports. He has said he followed Marian Lupu's call, who is heading the electoral list of the PDM. “I knew three weeks before that Marian Lupu was going to leave the Communists Party, before he made the announcement,” said Andrei Popov, who describes himself as an unexperienced politician. After the April 7 revolt, Andrei Popov has said he had had a meeting with Marian asking him to use his capacity of a PCRM member and a speaker of parliament “to protect us against the manipulations made in media”. “But then I realized Marian Lupu did not have that leverage,” Andrei Popov said. Speaking about the Democratic Party, Andrei Popov has said: “Personally I am confident that in several years we'll become the main political force on the center-left segment.” “The feeling that I have the chance and can contribute to this mission made it so easy for me to make this decision, which also has concrete and palpable risks and costs,” Popov said. When asked whether he realizes that in his capacity of a politician he and his family will be subjected to thorougher public scrutiny, Andrei Popov has answered: “Yes, that is why my third-grade daughter also came here.”
