Moldova’s association with the European Union is a way of strengthening the country’s security. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Radoslaw Sikorski said in an interview for Publika TV channel, IPN reports.
According to Sikorski, Moldova needs to strengthen its security at a time when the neighboring state is going through a war. “There is nothing without security. We see the tragedy witnessed by eastern Ukraine,” he stated.
The Polish official also expressed his concern about the Kremlin leader’s ‘project ‘Novorossia’. “Putin’s statement concerning the project “Novorossia”, made in March on the occasion of the illegal annexation of Crimea, is worrisome. Putin needs a terrestrial corridor to the peninsula. This corridor is to be torn away from Ukraine’s territory and it’s not known where this expansion stops. I think that Russia will pay a terrible price. The Russian soldiers die and are buried in secret. Mothers in Russia cannot find their sons. It will be terrible for both sides. The sooner President Putin realizes this, the better. We will do our utmost to resolve this conflict by peaceful ways,” stated Radoslaw Sikorski.
Speaking about the bans imposed by Russia on Moldova, the minister called on the Moldovan producers to orientate themselves to other export markets and to focus on the quality of products. “There were boycotts earlier too, against Georgia and against you. As responsible entrepreneurs, the producers must find new export markets. It is also very important to invest more in increasing the quality, in the storage capacities, and then, to look for alternative markets. It’s known that the Georgians now sell their wines in London much more profitably than they sold them once in Moscow,” said the Polish minister.
Radoslav Sikorski has been one of the main architects of the EU eastern policy, together with Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt. On different occasions, Sikorski expressed his support for the European course of Moldova.
