Polina Gurenco became a world karate youth champion. Denis Morozov’s pupil scored six clear victories in the competition that took place in Croatia, IPN reports.
Gurenko, who is native of Rabnita, emerged victorious in the kumite 47 kg class. She had a difficult match only in the semifinals against an Italian athlete, which ended by 4-3. In the final, Gurenko beat a Spanish athlete by 8-0. As a result, Polina Gurenko continues to top the WKF rating.
The tenth World Karate Youth Championships involved a record number of 2,059 athletes from 64 countries. Moldova was also represented by Alexei Garstea, Vasile Oanta and Octavian Garstea.
