The state policy on public-private partnership (PPP) projects will be coordinated by a national council. The council’s nominal composition was approved by the Government on April 11. Prime Minister Vladimir Filat will head the council, while Deputy Prime Minister Valeriu Lazar will serve as deputy chairman, Info-Prim Neo reports. ”We need a permanent dialogue platform that would allow identifying the areas where public-private partnerships will be developed. By constituting this new consultative body, we aim to create a favorable climate for mobilizing and attracting private investments for implementing PPP projects,” said Minister of Economy Valeriu Lazar. The council will have 24 members, including ministers, directors of governmental agencies, the chairpersons of the Banks Association of Moldova, the Foreign Investors Association and the National Employers Confederation, and independent experts. It will meet once in half a year or will have extraordinary meetings. PPP projects are currently launched in healthcare, agriculture, transport and other sectors. A contest is held to select the private partner that will built a parking garage near the Chisinau International Airport. Some of the discussions on the launch of PPPs in the public utilities sector are close to an end.
