A prosecution officer of the Hancesti Police Inspectorate was arrested on suspicion of traffic of influence. According to the National Anticorruption Center, the police officer asked for €2,000 for influencing a prosecutor not to file an application to court for extending the remand detention and to adopt a decision to drop the criminal case, IPN reports.
The policeman was caught red-handed after he received the first tranche of €1,000 that was handed over under the direction of the anticorruption officers. He was placed under arrest for 72 hours and faces a fine of 3,000 to 4,000 conventional units or two to six years in jail.
A number of 51 police officers were arrested by the National Anticorruption Center on corruption-related charges so far this year.
