An officer of the Botanica Police Inspectorate of Chisinau was caught in the act of taking €1,000 from a man for setting free his brother arrested for hooliganism, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the policeman was placed under arrest for 72 hours. He will be tried for passive corruption.
The policeman faces five to ten years in jail and a fine of 120,000 to 160,000 lei. He will also be banned from holding public posts for a period of seven to ten years.
The case is dealt with by the Anticorruption Prosecutors Office.
