A police officer from Chisinau and his brother were given three-year suspended sentences each for influence peddling. The judgement was passed by the appeals court after the ordinary court of law acquitted the two, IPN reports.
The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office said the men were accused of asking for and receiving a sum of €1,000 for transmitting it to a prosecutor from Chisinau. The police officer said he has influence over the prosecutors and can make this class a criminal case started against the victim over swindle.
Recently, the Chisinau Appeals Court quashed the sentence passed by the ordinary court. The policeman was banned from holding public posts for a period of five years.
