Police officer Ion Perju, who was charged with abuse of power and causing of serious bodily injuries that resulted in Valeriu Boboc’s death during the April 2009 events, was sentenced to 10 years behind bars by the Chisinau Appeals Court. Ion Perju was also banned from working in the bodies of the Ministry of the Interior for a period of five years, IPN reports.

In a press release, the Prosecutor General’s Office says that the culprit wasn’t taken into custody in the courtroom even if he was sentenced to imprisonment. The decision is not yet definitive and the prosecutors will yet decide whether to appeal it or not.

On April 6, 2010, Ion Perju, who worked then at the General Police Commissariat, was arrested. On April 7, he was charged with committing the acts that led to Valeriu Boboc’s death on April 8, 2009. On December 24, 2013, the Buiucani Court acquitted Ion Perju on all charges, arguing the deeds weren’t committed by him.
