From December 20 to January 15, policemen will be noticed patrolling parks and coniferous groves 24 hours a day in order to deter Christmas tree thieves. As the Public Relation Division within the Chisinau City Hall states, policemen will use the transport of the Association for Managing Green Spaces, while the district offices will take measures to protect the coniferous groves in the districts. Interim mayor Vasile Ursu has signed an order in this respect. This year, the fines for cutting down spruce fir, pine and fir trees will be of about 50 conventional units, or up to 10,000 lei, depending on how tall the conifer is. On December 22, people can buy fir trees put at the disposal by the State Agency “Moldsilva” in all the marketplaces in Chisinau.
