Now that the General Police Inspectorate was created, the police will be closer to the people, said the newly appointed director of the Inspectorate Ion Bodrug, who was presented to the staff of the Ministry of the Interior by Prime Minister Vlad Filat on March 6, Info-Prim Neo reports. Ion Bodrug said the Inspectorate will ensure the protection of the police chief from political influence. The Ministry of the Interior and the General Police Inspectorate will be separate institutions. The Ministry’s employees will be public servants and will not have the status of police officer. They will have the exclusive task of working out policies, strategies and plans, while the police will become an executive body. The employees of the Ministry will be confirmed to the posts kept after the creation of the General Police Inspectorate. The servants who will remain without posts following their liquidation will be offered other posts. If they do not accept the new posts, they will be dismissed. The Inspectorate will have 9,220 employees, by 300 more than the former Police Department. The Ministry’s employees will not bear epaulettes, except those who have a length of service of minimum 12 years. The police commissariats will be named local inspectorates. Within a month, the General Police Inspectorate will move to a new head office. The Inspectorate’s head is named for a five-year period. Premier Vlad Filat said they spoke a lot about reforms, but there were taken only chaotic actions, without a well-defined objective. Many people do not understand this reform, including at the Ministry. But things cannot advance without changes. The General Police Inspectorate was created following the adoption by Parliament of the Police Law, which came into force on March 5. The new law forms part of the reform implemented at the Ministry of the Interior.
