The General Police Inspectorate is investigating several cases related to a Telegram channel that publishes non-consensual intimate images of girls and women from Moldova. The Inspectorate said that international partners are involved in the investigation.
Telegram’s administrators were repeatedly asked to cooperate in banning the channel and providing information about those behind the channel, but the notoriously uncooperative app didn’t even respond, the Moldovan police said.
“The first request was sent back in June 2024, but to date we have not received any response. The law enforcement agencies are continuing the investigation and urge the victims to cooperate with the police to aid the investigation”, the Inspectorate said, adding that the channel continues to operate unhindered.
The channel, where non-consensual intimate photos, including revenge porn, are published behind a paywall, was reported to the police by a group of women’s rights activists. Access such groups costs between 200 and 300 lei, Moldova.org reported.
About a dozen of victims sought help from the Coalition for a Life without Violence.
