Police track down clandestine line for making sparkling wine

The population is warned to be maximally prudent when purchasing alcoholic beverages for the holiday meals. Recently, the police of Chisinau identified a clandestine line for making and bottling sparkling wine in Codru town of Chisinau municipality, IPN reports.

According to the Chisinau Police Division, the illegal business was managed by a couple. The clandestine line was camouflaged in the garage of a construction cooperative. The police identified a number of points for selling counterfeit products, including at cafes, bars and markets situated in the municipality.

In the garage, the police found and seized over 750 containers of 1.5 liters each with counterfeit sparkling wine and more than 1 tonne of non-bottled wine ready for being bottled as well as another 200 containers, 600 unused corks and handmade equipment.

The couple faces a fine of 3,000 to 10,000 lei and could be banned from performing particular activities for a period of six months to a year for counterfeiting and selling alcoholic beverages. The goods will be confiscated and destroyed.
