The Government on November 11 approved the strategy for reforming the Ministry of the Interior, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to Minister of the Interior Victor Catan, the reform will include the modification of the legislative, normative, institutional and functional framework, transfer of powers from the state-run agency Registru and creation of the Register of Population and Units of Transport.
The strategy provides for the exclusion of torture, degrading treatment and corruption from all the subdivisions of the Ministry of the Interior. The powers of the state police and the municipal police will be clearly delimited. The demilitarization, depoliticization and decentralization of the police activities are important elements of the reform, Victor Catan said
The draft strategy was published on the Ministry's website half a year ago and the institution's employees and civil society could state their opinions.
