The official delegations invited to Chisinau by the municipal authorities to take part in the City Day could be intimidated, considers Gabriela Ciumac, the head of the foreign relations, regional cooperation and European integration division of the Chisinau City Hall, Info-Prim Neo reports. Last weekend, she said, an official from the Public Security Division of the General Police Commissariat insistently demanded that the employees of the municipal division give him the list of foreign invitees. Ciumac said that the man wanted the complete list even if not all of the invitees confirmed that they will come. “It seems to me that intimidations are planned and I’m afraid that some of the delegations will be hindered from crossing the border as last year,” Gabriela Ciumac said. The municipal police head, deputy commissioner Iacob Gumenita did not deny the assertions, but said that that was an ordinary operation whose aim was to draw up a plan for maintaining public order and for organizing all the activities, including the accommodation and movement of the delegations. He added: “I do not want that the foreign delegates are intimidated by criminals.” For his part, the Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said: “The deputy commissioner implies that the people coming from abroad should be afraid of the Chisinau residents (...) I don’t know if the foreigners would like to come to Chisinau when they find out that the police follows where and how they stay.” Chirtoaca also assured that the sequestration of the City Hall’s accounts will not hinder the holding of the Chisinau Day. About 30 of the 100 invitees have confirmed that they will come to the holiday on October 14. Guests are expected from Bucharest, Riga, Minsk and other towns. The day will start with laying of flowers to the monument to Stephan the Great. A religious ceremony will be held at the Cathedral in the morning. During the day, national singers will give concerts in the Great National Assembly Square and in every district of Chisinau. Among the participants are master Eugen Doga, the “Lautarii” orchestra in concert with master Gheorghe Zamfir, Irina Loghin, Fuego and others. Dan Balan, who marks 10 years of artistic career, will give a performance in the evening.
