The police arrested five men suspected of transporting 75 kg of hashish, estimated at €300,000 on the black market, from Spain to Moldova. From Moldova, the drugs were to be smuggled into Russia, IPN reports.

Valeriu Brinister, deputy head of the Antidrug Division of the National Investigations Inspectorate, told a news conference that initially the police discovered 60 packs of hashish of 1 kg each in a minibus coming from Spain, at the entrance to Moldova. The drugs were hidden in a lateral wall of the vehicle, each pack being wrapped in polyethylene for several times so as to bar smell. The two drivers of the minibus by which passengers were also transported were arrested.

The police later identified three more persons involved in the transportation of drugs. At the place of one of the suspects, there were found and seized another 15 kg of hashish. On the black market in Moscow, the drugs could have been sold for £4,000-5,000 per kg. These were added as corpus delicti to the initial criminal case.

The five suspects aged between 25 and 40 were placed under arrest for 72 hours. They face seven to 15 years in jail.

This February, the police arrested another five men suspected of smuggling almost 100 kg of hashish from Spain into Moldova, from where these were to be taken to Russia.
