Police seize contraband poultry worth 70,000 lei

Officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have recently discovered two cases of poultry smuggling in Causeni district, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the Ministry. On December 23, the police stopped a Mercedes 207 minibus for check in Gradinita village of Causeni district. The vehicle was driven by a resident of Bender town. The police officers found about 1,400 kg of frozen poultry worth over 50,000 lei in the minibus. The driver had no documents of origin for the goods. Moreover, he avoided the internal customs post and did not pay customs duties. A contraband case was discovered near Copanca village of the same district one day later. A young man from Comrat district was transporting 600 kg of frozen poultry in a Volkswagen Golf without documents. The merchandise was assessed at 20,000 lei. The driver told the police that he had purchased the meat at the wholesale store of Sheriff SRL in Tiraspol town. According to the police, both of the drivers had been earlier detained for smuggling meat. Administrative proceedings were instituted against the two men. They are liable to fine of up to 500 lei or seizure of the merchandise. The Interior Ministry this year has reported 175 smuggling cases.
