Starting with January 1, the utilization and sale of plastic bags and dishware, except for the biodegradable ones, are banned. Those that will not comply will be fined. The fine for private individuals is up to 4,500 lei, while for legal entities is up to 12,000 lei, the General Police Inspectorate specified in connection with the coming into force of the new provisions, IPN reports.
The Inspectorate noted that the use and sale of plastic bags with or without handle whose wall thickness is equal to and greater than 50 microns, which were provided to consumers at shops, were banned as from January 1, 2019. The utilization and sale of thin plastic bags and dishware whose wall thickness is equal to or less than 50 microns, except for those used as packing, were banned as from January 1, 2020. Starting with January 1, 2021, it is banned using and selling very thin plastic bags whose wall thickness is less than 15 microns, except for those used as packing. It is also banned using and selling disposable plastic plates, containers and other tableware, except for the biodegradable ones.
The monitoring of the observance of the norms and rules of trading, including the ascertaining of contraventions, is within the remit of the ascertaining agents of the Agency for Consumer Protection and Market Surveillance and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
