The actions of the persons who took part in the incidents in Varniţa on the election day on November 1, which involved civilians, national observers and representatives of candidates for President, were examined by the police in accordance with the law and decisions over them are to be taken, IPN quoted Sergiu Paiu, head of the General Police Inspectorate, as saying in a press briefing.

“A number of persons, representatives of candidates for office of President and even MPs resorted to actions that fall under the criminal law that penalizes actions to discriminate, exclude, restrict or show preference to the right and freedoms of a person or a group of persons,” stated Sergiu Paiu.

Marin Maxian, deputy head of the General Police Inspectorate, said the police before the November 1 elections and on the election day dealt with 477 cases, including 34 cases of blocking of roads, one case of blocking of a polling station, 24 incidents with ballots, 18 reports of alleged voter corruption. There were also recorded 245 reports of alleged instances of organized transportation of voters, 24 instances of non-observance of the public health rules, 76 cases of disrespectful behavior, hooliganism and presence in a state of inebriation. “Thirteen of them were referred to the Central Election Commission, while four to the Prosecutor’s Office,” stated Marin Maxian.

On the election day, a number of persons, among whom veterans and representatives of candidates for President, tried to block movement on the road that connects Bender and Varnița. They said they want to prevent the illegal transportation of voters residing in the Transnistrian region to the polling stations established in Varnița.
