A number of police officers have been reprimanded and retrograded for inefficient work in fighting drug-mongering. Alexandru Gasca, the head of the Interior Minister’s office, told a news conference on April 22, he meant the head and his deputy of the Anti-Drug Subdivision of the Ministry. Reprimands have been issued to the head of the Transports Police Direction and to 9 district commissars, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Asked about the fate of the policemen suspected of drugs smuggling in the so-called “Heroin” case, Alexandru Gasca has said the ministry cannot comment the topic. “The file is conducted by the General Prosecutor’s Office. The probe’s results are not yet known. That is why the Ministry of Domestic Affairs will wait for the prosecutors’ conclusions and the court’s writ, and then will say its stance on the issue,” the head of the Interior Minister’s office has said, specifying that the suspects have been suspended from their positions.
“I want to assure that the Ministry did not arrest Gheorghe Papuc,” said Alexandru Gasca asked to confirm or to deny rumors about the arrest of the former Interior Minister for involvement in the Heroin case. “Mr. Papuc is a Moldovan citizen and he is not obliged to report to the Ministry about where he passes his leisure,” Gasca added.
During the last three months, 466 offences were registered in Moldova related to drugs smuggling.
