Police officer stands trial on bribery charges

A police officer from the Chisinau General Police Commissariat stands trial on the accusation that he demanded money from a driver for not starting criminal proceedings. According to the Anticorruption Prosecution Service, the officer was investigating a traffic accident on Dacia Boulevard in which a pedestrian was injured. The officer requested 5,000 lei from the driver involved in the accident for not starting criminal proceedings against him. Following the prosecution's petition, the officer was suspended from duty until a sentence is pronounced. The case is pending before the Centru District Court.
