A prosecution officer of the Drochia Police Inspectorate was sentenced to three years and eight months in jail and banned from holding posts in the law enforcement agencies for two years and three months for traffic of influence. The court also obliged the police officer to return the money received as a result of the illegal acts, IPN reports, with reference to the Prosecutor General’s Office.
In the summer of 2013, the officer asked and received €3,000 from a person investigated for raping a minor girl. In exchange for this sum, the policeman promised to influence the prosecutor to drop the charges against this person.
By the same scheme, in July 2016 the policeman asked and received €500 from an individual investigated for hooliganism for making the prosecutor in charge of the case to take a favorable decision in relation to this person.
The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
