Police inspect markets before Easter

On the eve of Easter, the police have intensified raids in the Chisinau markets, in order to counteract the sale of counterfeit and poor-quality goods. According to the press unit of the Interior Ministry, at the wholesale depot “Barsiul SV” Ltd, located on Padurii Street in Chisinau, there were detected goods with their shelf life expired. The merchandise worth MDL 104,600 was confiscated. The police have discovered more than one underground line for bottling counterfeit alcoholic production. One of them was located on Malina Mare Street, 48. The beverages were prepared in unhygienic conditions and were made of pure alcohol mixed with water and sold to the customers for 1 leu a glass. The police took away the merchandise ready for sale in the amount of 7500 lei, while the owner of this “business”, aged 58, was fined 1000 lei and the spirit was confiscated. Another clandestine line, this time designed for slaughtering fowls, was discovered on Florilor Street in Sangera town. Policemen took away 140 kg of poultry ready for sale, valued at 4900 lei. There were also sequestrated 239 birds. The full lot was taken for expertise. According to preliminary information, the owner, 45, has been operating for over half a year without the required documents.
