The General Police Inspectorate has “exhausted all persuasive remedies” in its effort to convince the Orhei authorities to adhere to the latest coronavirus restrictions and has therefore asked the National Anticorruption Agency to take over, Deputy Chief Inspector Alexandru Bejan told a press briefing.
In particular, the Orhei district administration has decided to openly defy a nationwide lockdown of entertainment venues and schools that has been imposed to keep the omicron wave at bay.
“We tried to intervene with persuasive measures and establish a dialog”, said Bejan.
In an incident, the police tried to restrict the access to an amusement park in Orhei. “But a Member of Moldovan Parliament, making use of her immunity and being accompanied by the president of the district and the mayor of Orhei, guided a group of almost 80 children with their adults into that park,” said Bejan, adding that the park’s management and the accompanying adults will now face contravention fines.
