A number of transport units and a batch of technical equipment were transmitted to the management of the General Police Inspectorate by the German Government, with the support of GS Foundation. The total value of the purchased goods is €3.8 million, IPN reports.
The donation consists of 56 motor vehicles, 20 PICAR intelligent systems to be installed in patrol cars, 587 units of computers, special investigation and intervention equipment, equipment for mapping road accidents and other technical equipment.
“I’m grateful to the German authorities and GS Foundation partners for offering us continuous support in the process of implementing European standards in the work of the Police. I’m sure that such joint police activities will continue in the future. I want to note that the intelligent system PICAR is an innovation for the National Police, which will help increase road safety,” the head of the General Police Inspectorate Viorel Cernăuțeanu said in the handover event.
“The made donation is an act of solidarity and trust that motivates us to continue our efforts to make changes and transformations to bring the Republic of Moldova closer to the European Union and the Member States. The modernization and changes we propose are grounded in our desire to bring tangible benefits to the citizens and in the conviction that together we can build a better future,” said Minister of Internal Affairs Adrian Efros.
The Police of the Republic of Moldova received the donation under the Memorandum of Understanding concluded between the Global Security Sector Reform Foundation and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova on cooperation to improve the work and working conditions of police officers and also to strengthen institutional capacities to deal with emerging security threats.
