Four persons were arrested by the police on suspicion that they stole things from cars by scanning and deactivating the alarm systems. The suspects were caught in the act of trying to enter a car located near a commercial market in Rascani district of Chisinau, IPN reports.

According to the Chisinau Police Division, the suspects include three men aged between 28 and 37 and a 34-year-old woman from Chisinau, Bender and Criuleni. Two of the men were earlier tried for theft and robbery. The police found on them a device by which they deactivated the alarm systems of cars from which they stole money and other goods.

The thieves acted when the victim parked the car. One of them followed the driver, while the second deactivated the alarm and stole valuable things. The third person had the role of monitoring the surroundings, while the fourth person waited for them in a BMW car. Then they drove away all together. One of the suspects worked at a taxi company. When the theft was committed, he used the service car.

At the end of June, the thieves stole US$4,000, 50,000 lei and other goods from a car. At suspects’ homes, the police found a part of the stolen goods. It is alleged that these committed at least 12 thefts in Rascani district alone. Measures are taken to establish their complicity in other cases.

The suspects were placed under arrest for 72 hours. They face seven to 12 years in jail for theft.
