Police catch group of burglars

The police discovered a group of offenders who committed four burglaries. This includes seven men from the Transnistrian region who are all drug users and who were earlier tried for similar offenses. Two of these were remanded in custody for 30 days. They admitted their guilt. The others are yet on the outside, IPN reports.

In a press beefing, acting deputy prosecutor of Chisinau municipality Vitalie Sibov said the group committed burglaries in February – June. These robbed pawn shops and jewelry shops in the municipality of Chisinau and a house in Calarasi district.

The members of the group used surgical masks and were armed with pistols and metallic cudgels. They entered shops, threatened the shop assistants and then broke the glass cases with a hammer and stole golden jewels.

In the period, the suspects stole from shops about 1 kilogram of gold to the value of over 700,000 lei. Afterward, the jewels were sold in the Transnistrian region. From the house located in Calarasi district, these stole a laptop, mobile phones, money and gold, causing damage of about 110,000 lei to the victims.

The suspects face 12 to 15 years in jail for burglary.
