Six persons from Chisinau municipality were arrested on suspicion that they smuggled large quantities of implants and articles for dental prostheses into Moldova. The contraband was estimated at about 6 million lei, IPN reports.
According to the General Police Inspectorate, in 2017-2018, not being registered as official importers, the persons brought dental articles into Moldova by avoiding customs control and by declaring a lower value of the imported goods in customs. The articles were purchased from Israel, China, Italy and South Korea and were to be sold to private dental clinics at lower prices than the market ones.
On April 18, the police carried out 19 searches at a number of addresses in Chisinau and seized over 4,000 implants and articles for dental prostheses to the value of over 6 million lei and also about 1.1 million lei.
According to the police, the arrested persons admitted their blame. The suspects aged between 30 and 40 face three to ten years in jail.
