Poland is willing to buy a part of the exported Moldova products so as to offset the losses caused by the partial closure of the Eastern markets due to the war. The issue was discussed in a meeting of Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița and the President of the Warsaw Agricultural and Food Wholesale Market Janusz Byliński and Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of State Assets Jan Kanthak in Warsaw, IPN reports.

The interlocutors discussed possibilities of extending the export of Moldovan products to the EU market and of identifying solutions for overcoming the economic crisis generated by the war in Ukraine.

Natalia Gavrilița said that the Moldovan Government recently launched a number of measures to protect the agricultural producers and increased the agriculture subsidization fund through the agency of new regulations. The war in Ukraine created logistical impediments to agricultural producers that exported to Ukraine, Russia and Belarus and the Government therefore swiftly identified solutions to redirect the goods to the port in Constanța.

“Another priority on this segment is to diversify the markets and, in this regard, we bank on the support of our partners from the European Union, including Poland. We must build long-lasting commercial and economic ties between out states, show mutual solidarity so as to be able to together overcome the challenges we face,” said Premier Gavrilița.

She also spoke about the Government’s view about the liberalization of transport and elimination of export quotas on agricultural products to markets in the EU.

For their part, Janusz Byliński and Jan Kanthak expressed their country’s readiness to extend the Moldovan-Polish commercial relations. They noted that Poland stands ready to import a part of the Moldovan products so as to offset the losses caused by the partial closure of the Eastern markets due to the war in Ukraine.

Those who attended the meeting spoke about Poland’s experience in developing local markets and in identifying new markets, noting that the Republic of Moldova has great potential to extend trade with the EU market.

After the official meeting, Natalia Gavrilița discussed with representatives of the entrepreneurs selling on the Moldovan market. The local business entities noted the quality of the Moldovan grapes, saying that these can create real competition to the products on the EU market. The Premier assured that the Government of the Republic of Moldova will continue to make the necessary effort to support and develop the agrifood sector.

Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița is paying a working visit to Poland on April 7-9.
