Five vehicles with humanitarian aid provided by the Government of Poland reached Moldova on June 26. The aid consists of medical equipment, such as protective masks and suits, gloves, visors and disinfectant to the total value of about €121,000. The donation was met at the National Clinical Hospital “T. Moșneaga”, IPN reports.
In the handover event, the Hospital’s acting director Andrei Uncuța said this humanitarian aid is extremely important in the fight against COVID-19. It will consolidate and facilitate medical activities and represents important support for the patients. He thanked the Government of Poland and the EU for solidarity and friendship.
Minister of Health, Labor and Social Protection Viorica Dumbrăveanu said the protective equipment and disinfectants are essential for the protection of medical personnel and also of patients, and not only those with COVID-19. “I express my gratitude for the support offered by the Polish people. This is not the first batch provided during the pandemic. We felt considerable support and we thank the Polish people for solidarity. I also want to thank the European Union for being a key partner of the Republic of Moldova,” stated the official.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Oleg Țulea said this support is the result of the European solidarity and this gesture comes in a difficult period, during a crisis caused by the pandemic. “There are historical cooperation and friendship relations between Moldova and Poland, Poland being an ardent supporter of the Republic of Moldova’s European course and reform agenda,” stated Oleg Țulea.
The Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Peter Michalko noted that this event reminds of solidarity, which is a principle on which the EU and European cooperation are based. The EU brings this principle to the partnership with its friends, which include the Republic of Moldova. “I want to express my gratitude to Poland, which brought this part of assistance and which was among the most active EU member states in supporting the Republic of Moldova. The EU and the member states offered their support to the Republic of Moldova frequently, including during the current crisis,” said the official.
Poland’s Ambassador to Moldova Bartłomiej Zdaniuk said that an important event takes place today and this shows that the Moldovan-Polish cooperation is real, with real content and it can help do many things. It is a proof of the fact that synergy can enable to go on. “We can say that we, the EU and EaP countries, managed to do a nice thing. What we see here today represents everyone’s synergy, first of all the wish of the Polish state to come in these difficult moments with assistance for the countries of the Eastern Partnership, which have a European future and can realize this European destiny,” stated the ambassador.
The humanitarian aid consists of 30,000 protective masks, 4,800 visors, 22,000 liters of disinfectant, etc. It will be distributed to health facilities in Moldova. The support was provided through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.
