On the 134th anniversary of the death of poet Mihai Eminescu, officials and people of art laid flowers at the bard’s bust on the Alley of Classical Writers in the central park of Chisinau, IPN reports.

Deputy mayor of Chisinau Irina Gutnic said the great poet’s works will always remain in people’s memory and in the school curricula. “It is our duty to know and perceive the essence of his eternal verses,” stated Irina Gutnic.

“He was a genius poet, a national poet, a solitary poet. He is the Evening Star of our poetry. There are many references that represent the most eloquent examples of respect for and tribute paid to Mihai Eminescu,” said Mariana Harjevschi, director of the Municipal Library “B.P.Hasdeu”. She noted that the poet’s life was closely connected with folklore, poetry, reading and also with the everyday life and coexistence between nations.

People’s artist Vitalie Rusu, actor, said that he familiarized himself with the works of Mihai Eminescu when he was five. He went up into their house’s attack and found the poet’s books. But he could not read and his mother told him to leave them there. “The covers were very nice and I still have two of those books about which I care a lot “Childhood Memories” by Ion Creangă and a pocket book of Mihai Eminescu’s poems,” he related.

Writer Maria Pilchin said the communities don’t know to save their creators, but later know to give names of creators to cultural institutions. “This is also gladdening as lessons from the mistakes of the past are this way learned,” said the writer, noting that Eminescu was a romantic ironical man despite his romantic paradigm.

The persons who were present at the event recited poets and sang songs put on Mihai Eminescu’s verses.
